Guido noemt het zonder twijfel 'a little Trebbiano and a little Riesling'.

'Perticaia is one of the most interesting, well-managed projects in the Montefalco zone, with impressive vineyards and a rare stylistic consistency. The very name Perticaia testifies to its strong ties to the land and to agriculture, is one of the brightest stars in the Sagrantino constellation. The guiding light of this estate is a skilled, knowledgeable and experienced vigneron called Guido Guardigli. The vineyards all have a terroir that has proven itself to have an inherent finesse, transposed to the bottle by a rigorous vinification process but allowing the natural expressiveness of the grapes to emerge.' Slimme weetjes: Montefalco DOC regio

The region lies in central Umbria, and primarily encompasses the hill town of Montefalco. Also within the region are the towns of Bevagna in the north, Gualdo Cattaneo and Bastardo in the center, and Castel Ritaldi in the south. The wine region completely lies within one much larger DOC: Colli Martani. Many of the wineries that make Montefalco DOC wines are located between Bevagna and Montefalco. The soil is mostly calcareous clay.

Slimme weetjes: bijzonder wit en rood

DOC Regulations According to regulations, Montefalco bianco must contain a minimum of 50% Grechetto, between 20% to 35% Trebbiano Toscano, and the winemaker’s choice of other white grapes for the remainder (up to 30%).

Montefalco rosso (by far more prevalent than bianco) must contain between 60% to 70% Sangiovese, along with a requirement of 10% to 15% Sagrantino, and the winemaker’s choice of other red grapes for the remainder (up to 30%). This allowance of other red grapes allows many Umbrian winemakers the ability to beef up their Montefalco rosso with interesting international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Montefalco rosso must be aged a minimum of 18 months.

Many wineries in Montefalco that make profound Sagrantino di Montefalco also make Montefalco rosso. The allowance of between 10% to 15% Sagrantino creates a Sangiovese-based wine with more tannins and body than many other reds of Italy. The result is a Sangiovese with some character and complexity.

Slimme weetjes: Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG

Sagrantino is an Italian grape variety that is indigenous to the region of Umbria in Central Italy. It is grown primarily in the village of Montefalco and its surrounding areas, with only 1,631 acres (660 ha) dedicated to the grape in the hands of about 50 producers. With such small production, the wine is not widely known outside Italy, although it was granted DOCG status in 1992. The grape creates wines that are inky purple with an almost-black center. The bouquet is one of dark, brooding red fruits with hints of plum, cinnamon, and earth. The Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG requires 100 percent Sagrantino used, with a required at least 29 months aging before release.

A mutation of Trebbiano di Abruzzo. This grape was bought back from near extinction. Only a dozen of vineyards grow this grape from Spoleto to Montefalco. Very aromatic reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc. Incredibly opulent, this white just keeps giving with every mouth quenching sip.Gambero Rosso '15 : 2/3 glazen
Bright golden-yellow. Powerful aromas of pineapple, honeyed peach and poached pear are accented by lemon rind and floral notes. Sappy, clinging tropical fruit, peach and candied citrus flavors are complicated by vanilla. One of the best Trebbiano Spoletino wines ever made by Perticaia; this gently aromatic white grape is garnering increasing interest among producers in Umbria. Perticaia's version also speaks more clearly of the variety than many others do.Vinous - Ian D'Agata: 90/100 (jg '11)
