- Always a star among the rosés, this vintage does not disappoint. It is perhaps fatter than usual but the ripe fruit is well balanced by the mineral texture and acidity. With its sense of structure, this wine is ready for food.

- The estate vineyard is on the north slopes of Sainte-Victoire facing the massive Lubéron mountain. This is a wind-sheltered region, reflected in this wine's ripe fruit balanced with crisp acidity and a mineral texture. It is full in the mouth, rich and with the chance of aging.

- Green feeling on the nose that has nothing to do with unripe fruit. The aromas recall granny smith apples, anise, and lime peel. In the mouth, this noble green characteristic is completed by softer sensations of white- eshed fruit and by a suggestion, particularly on the nish, of shelled almonds.

Fris en rijkdom, dikte, rondeur, zelfs wat boter als in chardonnay maar met een strakker zuiverder mondgevoel. Kenmerkend Italiaans bittertje in de afdronk.

Owner Stefano Antonucci has a three-decade track record of creating benchmark wines from the Marche.

Al Passo Super Tuscan 2016

- A really endearing red that shows dried herbs, fresh blueberries, tobacco and cedar. Lithe and very tangy on the palate, which is medium-to full-bodied, elegant and dialed-in. The fine tannins add to a delicate but muscular impression on the medium-chewy finish. Drink now.

- There are three grapes here in more or less equal measure: Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. You'll find sturdy notes of tilled earth in the 2016 Al Passo, with lots of intensity and ripe fruit. It would make a nice pairing with a good old spaghetti al ragù. The wine is balanced and bright without too much concentration or heft. It feels very Tuscan. You get excellent value.

- The 2016 Al Passo, Tolaini's Sangiovese/Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend is bold and juicy, not to mention absolutely delicious. Fresh, vibrant and full of character, the 2016 hits all the right notes. Sangiovese red fruits are nicely pushed forward. Al Passo is such a pretty and inviting wine in 2017. I very much like the energy here. Bright aromatic top notes add a kick of energy on the finish.

Medium to full-bodied, rich and beautifully textured, it tastes more like a Chateauneuf du Pape than a Cotes du Rhone. Drink it anytime over the coming 4-5 years.
