Waarom deze wijn?
Het is een persoonlijke favoriet van Steven Spurrier! Deze Sauvignon Blanc van de uiterst gedreven, perfectionistische, en zelfstandige wijnmaker: Antoine de la Farge. Zijn succes wordt (meer dan) opgemerkt, vorig jaar met de Zilveren Medaille in het meest prestigieuze Britse wijnmagazine Decanter en op kaarten van diverse sterren restaurants. We zijn trots dat we er de hand op hebben kunnen leggen en er binnenkort voor deze prijs (!) van te mogen genieten.
De smaak
Zeer expressieve, fruitige en frisse Sauvignon met hints van kruisbes en passievrucht. Ziltheid in de smaak is verrukkelijk. De wijn heeft een uitstekende balans.

Wij vergelijken het voordeel altijd met de prijzen in de online-markt. Belangrijk is dat er 'appels met appels' wordt vergeleken; dus precies dezelfde wijn per 6 flessen van hetzelfde jaar èn bij jou thuisbezorgd (bezorgtarief elders is in de prijscheck opgenomen).
Deze wijn is in Nederland alleen verkrijgbaar bij Sterrenwijnen Thuis voor € 16,10.
De oorsprong
Het is dezelfde familie die al sinds 1520 wijn maakt op dit opmerkelijke, kleine wijndomein in de OAC Menetou-Salon. De familie de la Farge met Antoine in charge kent het terroir als geen ander en weet wat nodig is om tot de top van de Loire te behoren. Met als resultaat de mooiste Sauvignon Blancs en Pinot Noirs. Het is volgens de experts de beste vertolking van de prachtige aroma's en de indrukwekkende complexiteit van het terroir. Domaine de L'Ermitage is een voorbeeld van wat de kleine Menetou Appellation kan bieden op het gebied van kwaliteit en waarde. Een prijs-kwaliteit die door vele wijnproducenten in de naburige Appellation Sancerre niet gehaald wordt.
Slimme weetjes: Het ontstaan van Menetou-Salon AOC
Menetou-Salon is the name of an Appellation d'origine contrôlée for wine (AOC), with vineyards extending over 330 hectares (820 acres) over the hill. This appellation covers an area of 10 communes, one of which is Menetou-Salon itself. Menetou-Salon is an ancient wine-producing area if old writings and documents about the seigniory and lordship of Menetou are to be believed. Documents from the years 1063, 1097 at 1100 have been recovered, where the Lord of Menetou gave a donation to different religious orders in the region, most particularly to the Saint-Sulpice-lès-Bourges Abbey, with vines located close to Davet. In 1190, Hugues de Vèvre, Lord of Menetou-Salon, also yielded the grounds and vines at the Loroy Abbey. Finally, the old writings relating to the wine of the Menetou-Salon vineyard, which is one of the most beautiful adornments of the stately table of silversmith Jacques Coeur, acquired by the seigniory of Menetou in 1450. They even say that Agnès Sorel, when she came to rest under the old limetree which is still standing near the chateau to this day, particularly appreciated the wine of « Clos de la Dame ».

The Loire Valley is often divided into three sections. The Upper Loire includes the Sauvignon blanc dominated areas of Sancerre, Menetou-Salon and Pouilly-Fumé. The Middle Loire is dominated by more Chenin blanc and Cabernet franc wines found in the regions around Touraine, Saumur, Chinon and Vouvray. The Lower Loire that leads to the mouth of the river's entrance to the Atlantic goes through the Muscadet region which is dominated by wines of the Melon de Bourgogne grape. Spread out across the Loire Valley are 87 appellation under the AOC, VDQS and Vin de Pays systems. There are two generic designation that can be used across the whole of the Loire Valley. The Crémant de Loire which refers to any sparkling wine made according to the traditional method of Champagne. The Vin de Pays du Jardin de la France refers to any varietally labelled wine, such as Chardonnay, that is produced in the region outside of an AOC designation.
