Waarom deze wijn?
Er is Soave-wijn in overvloed maar Soave Superiore DOCG is een klasse apart. De beste DOCG Superiore wijnen komen van de minder vruchtbare heuvelachtige wijngaarden. Juist die geven de meeste smaak en finesse! Een bijzonder exemplaar is de Vicentini Agostino Soave Superiore DOCG 2016. Deze 100% Garganega bewijst opnieuw het uitstekende werk dat wijnmaker Agostini levert op zijn kalkhoudende locatie Il Casale. Deze jaargang 2016 scoort opnieuw de felbegeerde 3 glazen 'Tre Bicchieri' van de Gambero Rosso.
De smaak
Een zeer complexe geur van rijp krachtig wit- en citrusfruit, naar rijpe appel en sappige peer maar ook naar kruidige dragon en lichte rookaccenten. Heeft wel wat zuurstof nodig, dus in grote glazen schenken. Een zeer goede smaak, met zeer aangename zachte zuren, goede grip en fatsoenlijke concentratie. Nauwkeurig en puur, eiken aanwezig maar niet te veel, krachtig maar niet zwaar. Lange afdronk.

Spijs-aanbeveling
Geweldig als bijzonder aperitief. Deze heerlijke witte wijn past uitstekend bij dorade, linzen of bijvoorbeeld een spinazie-salade met zonnenbloempitten.

Wij vergelijken het voordeel altijd met de prijzen in de online-markt. Belangrijk is dat er dan wel 'appels met appels' worden vergeleken; dus precies dezelfde wijn per 6 flessen van (bij voorkeur) hetzelfde jaar èn bij jou thuisbezorgd (de bezorgtarieven elders zijn meegenomen in de prijscheck).
De oorsprong
Azienda Agricola Vicentini Agostino ligt 19 km ten oosten van Verona in Colognola ai Colli aan de mondingsvallei van de schitterende Valle d'Illasi, waar behalve druivenstokken ook olijf- en kersenbomen groeien. Agostino Vicentini erfde hier 14 hectare wijngaarden van zijn vader. Hij bracht hem de liefde voor het terroir en 40 jaar ervaring in de wijngaard bij. Sinds 1990 is Vicentini nu in zijn eigen bedrijf actief. Vandaag omvat het wijngoed 20 hectare, die grotendeels zijn begroeid met de voor Soave typische soort Garganega. Op de vulkanische bodem groeit de trebbiano di soave. Verder verbouwt men de rode druivensoorten Corvina, Rondinella en Molinara. Inmiddels wordt de wijnmaker Vicentini behoorlijk geholpen door zijn kinderen Francesca en Emanuele en zijn echtgenote Teresa. Het familiebedrijf produceert een respectabel volume – ruim 100.000 flessen per jaar.
Slimme weetjes: Soave Superiore is een andere league
Soave Superiore is the DOCG title given to Soave wines from the appellation's highest-quality tier. Soave is arguably the most famous white-wine title in Italy. Its wines are made from Garganega grapes grown around the town of Soave, just east of Verona in north-eastern Italy. A dry, crisp, fruity white wine, Soave's naturally refreshing appeal led it to phenomenal popularity in the second half of the 20th century.
Slimme weetjes: Soave Superiore en Vincentini Agostino's Soave Superiore
'The different appellations - Soave DOC, Soave Classico DOCG, Soave Superiore DOCG and Soave Superiore Classico DOCG - suggest a ladder of quality but this may not always be the case in practice. Soave Classico comes from a smaller area at the heart of the zone and Superiore wines must come from vines grown on the generally less fertile hillsides, in theory producing more flavourful wines.
Il Casale is classified as Soave Superiore shows the Vicentinis' terraced vineyard of the same name. Ironically, I came across Vicentini Agostino's excellent Il Casale Soave Superiore, one of those quiet voices, in a tasting that focused on wines from grapes grown on volcanic soils (see full report). Ironically because although vineyards in the eastern part of the appellation are planted on volcanic soils, this particular wine comes from another part of the region which has limestone soils derived not from volcanic eruptions but from deposits that were once at the bottom of the sea.'
