Waarom deze wijn?
De Verdicchio Superiore DOCG van Stefano Antonucci is een pracht wijn. 2017 overstijgt alle voorgaande jaren en behoort tot de absolute top als het gaat om Verdicchio! De beste restaurants van Italië hebben hem allemaal op de kaart. Met deze wijn heeft Stefano Antonucci naam en faam gekregen en bewijst hij jaar op jaar zijn grote klasse met onderscheidingen en maximale scores 'Tre Bicchieri' in de meest prestigieuze Italiaanse wijngids Gambero Rosso.
De smaak
De wijn is houtgelagerd maar het hout is heel goed verweven. In de neus komt vooral het minerale karakter van de Verdicchio naar boven. In de mond heeft de wijn een mooie vettige structuur met veel tropisch fruit en een zachte, lange, rijke afdronk. De wijn is om nu al van te genieten maar kan ook verder ouderen.

Santa Barbara behoort tot de absolute top in de Jesi regio. Wijnmaker Stefano Antonucci bewijst dit veelvuldig met de maximale score 'Tre Bicchieri' in de Gambero Rosso, de wijnbijbel van Italië. Deze score staat voor 'extraordinary wines'. Voor de liefhebbers een must om te proberen. Ook zijn Verdicchio Classico is van een ongekende kwaliteit.

Verdicchio from this DOC zone is produced in the central hills of the province of Ancona, as well as a tiny part of the neighbouring area in the provence of Macerata. Only the wine sourced from a limited, traditional growing area can be called Classico. Given the extremely versatile nature of the variety almost all wine types are represented, especially Superiore, Riserva, Passito and Spumante. This Jesi grape is one of Italy's finest native varieties, yielding characterful white wines, with fresh aromas and a complex, minerally, savoury palate. Ideal with seafood dishes of all kinds and equally delicious with white meats.

Verdicchio [ver’dikkjo] is a white Italian wine grape variety grown primarily in the Marche region of central Italy. The name Verdicchio derives from verde (or "green") and refers to the slight green/yellow hue that wines made from the grape can have. Verdicchio is the principal grape behind two Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) wines produced in the provinces of Macerata and Ancona, Verdicchio di Matelica and Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. In addition to producing still wines, Verdicchio grapes are also used to make sparkling wine and straw wine.

Verdicchio can produce wines that are virtually colorless with noticeably high acidity that can come across on the palate with citrus notes. According to wine expert Jancis Robinson, well made examples from favorable vintages can have flavors of lemons and slight bitter almond notes.
According to Oz Clarke, the quality of Verdicchio wines has improved since the later half of the 20th century as producers limit yields even beyond DOC regulation to produce fuller flavored grapes that can better balance its high acidity. Clarke goes on to note that the subtlety of Verdicchio flavors allows it to pair very well with a variety of foods.‘Verdicchio is arguably Italy’s greatest native white grape variety.’
In its 2015 Italian wine guide, Gambero Rosso awarded its highest rating of tre bicchieri to 11 examples of Verdicchio – more than any other white in the country.
