Omdat deze Vernaccia Riserva 2010 wel heel speciaal is: de wijn is beoordeeld met de maximale score van Gambero Rosso: 'extraordinary wine' en we hebben (met hulp) toch nog een kleine partij van 2010 kunnen vastleggen. Voor de liefhebber de kans om deze unieke witte wijn rechtstreeks van San Gimignano in de kelder te krijgen. Bovendien is er voor deze mooie wijn niet veel geduld nodig want hij is op dronk!

Witte wijn, medium bodied en fluweelzacht, met tonen van bloemen, afwisselend munt en walnoot. Intens, complex, met een mooie frisheid en lange afdronk.

De oorsprong
' The Troiani family's estate is at the top of the DOCG. Orignally viticulturists from the Marche, they decided to invest their energies in the territory of San Gimignano several years ago. From its beginnings in 1959, the estate has expanded to become a full-blown agricultural concern of 45 hectares divided between cultivated areas of vineyards, olive groves and arable land, and the zone's woodland. The vines sit on the hilly terrains in light soil of medium texture.
The wines offer an authentic, elegant example of the territory's potential and are among the best around. 2010 is clearly a year of grace. Encoring last year's performance of the Vernaccia Casanova, this year it is the turn of the Riserva to win Tre Bicchieri.' Gambero Rosso 2014

Vernaccia is a white Italian wine, made from the Vernaccia grape, produced in and around the Italian hill town of San Gimignano in Tuscany. Since the Renaissance it has been considered one of Italy's finest white wines. It was the first Italian wine to be awarded Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) status in 1966; on July 9th, 1993 it was upgraded to Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG).

Slimme weetjes: Wanneer wordt Riserva status bereikt?
According to DOC regulations, Vernaccia di San Gimigniano must contain 90% Vernaccia, with up to 10% other nonaromatic approved white varieties. In order to meet "riserva" status, aging must be a minimum of twelve months, including four months in bottle.
