ColleMassari is in de Gambero Rosso 2014 uitgeroepen tot 'the winery of the year 2014.' De nummer 1 van de in totaal 2360 wijnproducten op basis van prijs-kwaliteitverhouding!

'Colle Massari owned by Claudio and Maria Iris Tipa is the foundation on which promotion of the value of Montecucco was built, an area which has proved ideal for planting Sangiovese. The estate's location enjoys a breezy microclimate with good temperature variation. The vineyards are mainly planted with Sangiovese resulting from selections made with the help of the University of Pisa. The cellar is an impressive example of eco-friendly architecture, built on four levels to permit processing of the grapes and must without the use of pumps and mechanical equipment.

Thanks to their hard work a young DOC zone like this one in the Grosseto area was able to make a name for itself internationally in a very short time. The vineyards are organically farmed and the cellar was built in line with bioarchitecture standards.' Gambero Rosso 2014/ 2015

Slimme weetjes: zuidelijke deel van charmante Toscane

The Montecucco DOC sits in the southern part of the charming Tuscany region, in central Italy. This area is nestled between Montalcino, home of the renowned Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, and Scansano, birthplace of the Morellino di Scansano DOCG. Despite having a viticultural heritage dating as far back as the eighth century, this winemaking zone was only awarded its DOC classification in 1998.

Slimme weetjes: waar ligt de DOC Montecucco?

According to regulations, vineyards are limited to a small part of the province of Siena and the rest sit in the Upper Maremma. They are situated on the southwest hillsides of the Amiata Mountain, directly opposite the Brunello slopes; the two enjoy the same microclimate.

Slimme weetjes: in DOC Montecucco is het Sangiovese troef

Today this DOC has made a name for itself with its Montecucco Rosso, produced from the leading Tuscan red grape, Sangiovese, which makes up 60% of the wine. The wine is regarded for its fine tannins, sweet fruit aromas and cherry-rich flavors. A Sangiovese varietal and its riserva (aged for a minimum of 24 months) are also part of the DOC, as is a Vermentino varietal; all require 85% of the stated variety. Like the rosso, the Montecucco Bianco favors a local variety: the white Trebbiano Toscano grape, which must make up 60% of the wine.

The 2012 Rigoleto is a real beauty. Silky and expressive on the palate, the 2012 impresses for its racy, perfumed personality and fabulous overall balance. Rose petal, sweet red berry and licorice notes meld together on the expressive, nuanced finish. This is fabulous entry-level offering from Colle Massari.Vinous, Antonio Galloni 89/100 (jg'12)
